The Water Department, in collaboration with its engineering consultant H2M and independent contractors, is undertaking a multi-million-dollar upgrade to the water lines and valves in Central Nyack, West Nyack, and select streets in the Village of Nyack. This project involves the replacement of water mains and lateral lines, which will require excavations in the roadways.
Once excavation work is completed, the trenches will be filled in. The Water Department is working closely wit h Clarkstown Highway Department, to ensure that the re-paving of trenches in Central Nyack and West Nyack meets the standards outlined in town-issued permits. Streets in the Village of Nyack will also be repaved as part of the Village's annual paving program.
Phase A of the Water Main Replacement Project was successfully completed between 2020 and 2022. Phase B construction has started November 2024.
Phase B of the Water Main Replacement Project is now under construction in West Nyack and the Village of Nyack, starting with Central Ave and Francis Ave. Work will then progress to Jefferson Ave and Marion St in the coming weeks. This phase focuses on replacing the oldest, most failure-prone water lines in the Village.

The following streets are scheduled for water main work during Phase B of this project, with construction taking place from Fall 2024 to Summer 2025:
The Water Department is upgrading its treatment plant to effectively remove PFOS/PFAS contaminants in compliance with state and federal regulations. Designed by H2M Engineers, this important project is nearing completion and is expected to go out to bid in January 2025. The total project cost is approximately $6.7 million, with a significant portion funded through grants and New York State financing.
The design for the PFOS/PFAS treatment process is largely complete, pending approval from the Department of Health. The project is on track to be ready for competitive bidding in January 2025, with construction expected to begin shortly thereafter.
For more information on PFOS/PFAS contamination, please visit the Water Department home page, or refer to the annual water quality report and PFAS/PFOA reports.
