Nyack Tree Committee

Nyack Tree Programs

Recognizing the many benefits of trees and the challenges of maintaining a healthy community forest, Nyack has made a strong commitment to protecting and expanding the community forest through thoughtful planning, management and public education.

The village established the Nyack Tree Committee in 2014 to organize planting and maintenance projects and advise on policies related to trees. The village has maintained its status as a Tree City USA since 2015.  With a grant from the NYS DEC’s Urban Forestry grant program that same year, the Davey Resource Group conducted an inventory of all public trees in the village to guide decisions about future planting and maintenance, and then was awarded a $50,000 grant for professional services for tree maintenance.

The Nyack Tree Project, Nyack’s tree planting and young tree stewardship program, began in 2016. Twice a year, volunteers of all ages plant trees along Nyack’s streets and in the park with the help of DPW staff.  Approximately 400 trees have been planted so far. The program is supported by taxpayers, individual and corporate donors

The public is encouraged to participate in the Tree Committee and the Tree Project.
