The Village welcomes Nyack residents to place food scraps, using the required compostable bags available free at Nyack Village Hall and the Nyack Library, in the green food scrap receptacles located at the DPW front gate, 63 West Catherine St. Nyack, NY. In addition to using the correct bags, we ask for your cooperation in avoiding contamination with plastic bags, incorrect “compostable/biodegradable” bags, pet waste, and other non-food items. Please see the village website for rules, which are also listed on the sign at the drop-off site. We thank Rockland Green (County Solid Waste Management Authority) and the Town of Orangetown for their support setting up this drop-off site. Specialized food scrap countertop and/or garage bins are available for sale at Orangetown Town Hall click here for information. The Food Waste Recycling Site is one of many local efforts to increase the sustainability of our households and Village in the face of climate change. Diverting food scraps from trash reduces the greenhouse gas emissions (such as methane) from landfilled trash and reduces the volume of trash overall, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from trucking trash to distant landfills. To learn more about Nyack sustainability projects and lend a hand, visit the Village’s Sustainability Webpage. Volunteers Needed for Citizen Advisory Committee for Community Development Program The Village of Nyack participates in Rockland County's Community Development Program funded by HUD. This funding has allowed the Village to reconstruct sidewalks and roadways in the eligible census track. You must reside in the Village of Nyack to volunteer as a committee member. The first meeting (of two) will be held on August 22, 2023 at 6pm at Village Hall. Please RSVP to Administrator@nyack-ny.gov or by phone to Andy Stewart, Village Administrator 845-358-3581. |
