Mayor's Message: I am delighted to tell you that at this Thursday’s Village Board meeting, we will be reviewing over $50,000 in Nyack Tourism Grants going to several local organizations that are putting on some wonderful events throughout 2025. These include:
The tourism grants come from revenue generated by the hotel occupancy tax that we passed a few years ago, so no property tax dollars are used to sustain them. Half of the hotel tax goes to our general revenues, and half goes to fund these Tourism Grants. With these series of grants, we will have distributed over $150,000 in tourism grants to community groups and businesses to support these wonderful programs and events. Our thanks to everyone for their hard work applying for these grants, to the Nyack Business Council for reviewing the grants, and to Thomas Schneck at Visit Nyack for all his work managing the applications. Speaking of events, some important and fun events are coming up: * This Tuesday at 7PM in Village Hall, the Nyack Fresh Market is holding a “candid conversation” to solicit feedback from customers (and non-customers) about how they can better service the needs of our community. This is an extraordinary gesture on their part, and I hope people will come out to support them. Details below. * Next Sunday, 3/2 at 12PM, Memorial Park will be the launching point for the 18th Annual Penguin Plunge. This is a wonderful event raising money for some truly deserving kids. Even if you’re not going to take the plunge, it’s a fun event that you should check out. And, yes, I will be again taking the plunge, although this time I will bring a bathing suit (last year I was cajoled to plunge in my suit, which was sub-optimal). Details below. * Rockland County Pride is holding its first “Night Market,” a night of shopping, socializing, and community building, at the Pride Center on Friday, April 4th. They’ll be doing this every month — opening late and welcoming the public to come visit to check out the vendors and a featured bricks-and-mortar shop. They’ll look for vendors — business owners, artists, makers, and the like. You can find out more about becoming a vendor at www.nyack.link/nightmarket or at the pride center website. This is a “First Friday” event, so there will be other things going on as well — mark the date in your calendar now! It’s all happening in Nyack, my friends. Have a great week! JR Our friends at Nyack Fresh Market are looking for public input on what they can do to better serve our community. If you'd like to participate in a survey, go here Nyack Fresh Market Survey to share your thoughts. Also, the owners and managers will be giving a presentation and soliciting public comment on Tuesday, February 25th at 7PM in Village Hall. All are welcome. Note that this is not an "official Village event". The Penguin Plunge is Sunday, March 2, 2025 in Memorial Park! 12PM - 2PMUpcoming Meetings: Village Board of Trustees Reminders: Nyack DPW Bulk Trash Pick Up Water Main Project Schedule:
