Mayors Message Hi all, I hope you are all enjoying these first few days of spring, with the promise of longer days and (hopefully after this week) warmer weather. I just wanted to highlight a couple of new business openings this past week: First, congratulations to Dr. Chris Gaylord and everyone at Nyack Neighborhood Veterinary, which had its ribbon-cutting this past weekend! They’re located at 122 Main Street. I am particularly happy to see them open because Dr. Gaylord approached us a year ago to see whether the Village could amend its zoning laws to allow for a small animal veterinary practice in downtown Nyack. We went through that process, and we’re proud to now have this business serving the needs of our local pet owners. Second, I’m also very excited about the opening of Kantina Kita, the sister restaurant to Kantina in Sparkill, at 145 Main Street. Congratulations to Chef Chris Holland (three-time Chopped champion!) and Jensen DiBattista on opening up their take on sushi and Asian street food. Congratulations also to building owner and local business owner Dominick Pilla on finding a blue-ribbon tenant for his great renovation at 145 Main Street. If you want to find out more, Jeanne Muchnick of the Journal News gave a nice write-up about the opening last week, which you can read here. It’s just great to see so many terrific businesses coming to Nyack, particularly on the heels of the openings of Sundays Restaurant at 100 Main and Olar Meu at 132 MainStreet. We’re delighted about the revitalization of our downtown, which will only become stronger as we start implementing the $4.5M NY Forward grant we won earlier this month. In that same vein, I wanted to let you know that BrightPath Nyack, a new child care center, is opening at 265 N. Highland Avenue, #103. Their ribbon-cutting is on Thursday, March 27th at 10 AM. Congrats to them! Finally, a reminder that we have a Village Board meeting this Thursday at 7:30 PM at Village Hall. We have a number of items to discuss, including my proposal to add a new “distance from each other” requirement for cannabis dispensaries in the Village, to backstop the state regulations. We expect a large crowd because of recent concerns expressed about the medicinal cannabis dispensary opening at 80 Main Street, and encourage anyone interested in the issue (pro or con) to attend. The cannabis discussion should start around 8:15 PM. Have a great week, everyone! JR This Week in Nyack Climate Risk & Resilience Workshop 📅 Monday, March 24
