3 Things you need to know about recycling:

Many people find recycling has gotten more complicated lately, so they put everything they think is recyclable into their bin. They figure their municipality can get rid of anything that doesn’t belong. The industry calls it ‘wish-cycling’. It costs municipal governments hundreds of millions of dollars annually.

The truth is that most local recycling programs prefer that if you’re not sure whether an item is recyclable, you put it in the garbage - not your recycling container. Want to be a better recycler? Here are three rules to live by:

1. Don't bag your recyclables

2. Recycle all bottles, jars, and cans

3. No food or liquids in recycling
