Pedestrian Safety Action Plan

Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (PSAP) The PSAP project will update existing traffic signalization at four of the most heavily traveled intersections in the Village along the Broadway and North Midland Avenue corridors within the Village of Nyack. The project is being federally funded with a $375,000 grant through the Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (PSAP) program that is administered by the New York State Department of Transportation.

The PSAP Intersection Improvements project provides pedestrian signal upgrades, with countdown timers and accessible push-buttons, and new high visibility crosswalk striping, at four intersections.  Additionally, new signal controllers will be provided to allow leading pedestrian intervals (LPI's) to be implemented at each location.  LPI's provide improved pedestrian safety by starting the walk signal several seconds before the vehicle signal, which allows pedestrians to get to a more visible location within the crosswalk when the vehicles begin to move.  The intersections included in this project are:

  1. Broadway and Main Street
  2. Broadway and Depew Avenue
  3. N. Midland Avenue and 5th Avenue
  4. N. Midland Avenue and High Avenue
